Dutch Senate adopts alcohol purchasing age of 18

18 June 2013

Today, Dutch Senate approved a members’ bill amending the Alcohol Licensing and Catering Act. The amendment introduces one age limit of 18 years for on and for off premise purchasing and for public possession of both mildly and strong alcoholic beverages.

State Secretary of Health Martin van Rijn has indicated that the new age limit will come into force 1 January 2014.
