Compliance with legal age limit now 21.5%

20 June 2015

Compliance with legal age limit now 21.5% State Secretary of Health Martin van Rijn has reported to Parliament the results of a mystery-kids study investigating the compliance with the age limit of alcohol and tobacco products. The results of this study, in which 1,373 alcohol purchase attempts were made, are distressing.

Too few sellers asked the mystery-kids for an ID, and if they did, the alcohol was often delivered, although the youngster was under the legal alcohol purchasing age of 18. The overall compliance with the alcohol age is now 21.5% (weighted average). Compared to 2013, the compliance in all sales channels - with the exception of home delivery channels - is deteriorated.
