Senate adopts new alcohol law

26 May 2012

The Dutch Senate has adopted the new Alcohol Licensing and Catering Act. This stipulates that people under 16 can be punished for being in possession of alcohol in public. Grocery stores can be forced to close their alcohol department temporarily if they are caught three time in one year selling alcohol to under 16-year-olds. Licenses can also be suspended or withdrawn. Also, supervision of the law can be undertaken locally.
