International conference Alcohol, Health and Policy The Dutch Institute for Alcohol Policy (STAP) organizes their second international conference on Alcohol and Health on Friday, October 3, 2014 in Amsterdam. The title of the conference is: ‘Alcohol, Health and Policy’.

In the plenary part, leading scientists present the latest findings on the health burden of alcohol consumption in Europe and the Netherlands, the impact of alcohol consumption on the onset of e.g. cancer and brain diseases, and on methods of early detection of harmful alcohol consumption.

In the afternoon, workshops are dedicated to the application of this knowledge in practice. These sessions focus on healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, staff working in addiction (session 1), project coordinators, local policy makers and regulators (session 2), and those involved in national and European alcohol policy (session 3).
Keyspeakers are Prof. Jürgen Rehm (Canada), Prof. Peter Anderson (Maastricht and Newcastle), Prof. Nick Sheron (Southampton), Prof. Reinout Wiers (Amsterdam) and Prof. Gerard Schippers. Additionally, there are speakers of EASL (European Association for the Study of the Liver), Eurocare (dome of European Alcohol NGOs), Municipality of Rotterdam, Northamptonshire Police (UK), STAP, VeiligheidNL and the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF). The day ends with a policy debate including members of the Dutch parliament.
