Catering venues will remain closed for at least another ten days

14 January 2022

Cafés, restaurants, cinemas and theatres will remain closed for the next ten days. The cabinet did not consider further relaxation because the number of corona infections are increasing too rapidly in the fourth wave of the pandemic.

This became apparent today during the press conference of Prime Minister Mark Rutte and the new Minister of Health, Ernst Kuipers.

There will be a new weighing moment on January 25. The cabinet will then look whether the corona measures can be further relaxed, starting with the catering sector, museums, cinemas and theaters.

There is a lot of indignation within the catering and cultural sector. The catering industry finds it unjust that relaxation is possible for other sectors, such as non-essential shops, higher education and sports.
