Well educated pensioners more likely to drink too much: survey

20 August 2016

Well-educated pensioners are more likely to be heavy drinkers compared to their less skilled peers, according to the latest lifestyle monitor published by the national statistics office CBS, public health institute RIVM and the Trimbos-institute.

Nine out of 10 highly-skilled over-65s say they are regular drinkers and 15% of these admit to drinking too much (more than 21 units of alcohol a week for men and 14 for women). By contrast, 10% of the low-skilled drinkers over 65 drink too much.
